Estrogen Dominance

Few have heard of it but many suffer from it - Estrogen Dominance

Most women we see in their 40s and beyond (if can also occur in you 20s and 30s) are estrogen dominate.  I'll let you in on a secret - most men in their 40s and beyond also are estrogen dominate.

What is Estrogen Dominance?  Estrogen dominance is a state where the level of estrogen outweighs the level of progesterone in the body. This is said to be caused by a decrease in progesterone without a equal decrease in estrogen.

In conventional medicine women who suffer from hormonal imbalance are given estrogen or an estrogen / progesterone combination.  It's just not that simple.

A lot of symptoms of hormonal imbalance are associated with high normal to high estrogen levels. This is a common condition for many women in the first stage of perimenopause.  In many cases low estrogen is not the problem but rather low progesterone in ratio to the estrogen.

So Estrogen dominance is more than "too much" estrogen but occurs when estrogen levels are high compared to levels of progesterone.

Signs & symptoms of high estrogen-to-progesterone ratio

  • PMS
  • Breakthrough bleeding, spotting
  • Mood swings
  • Skin breakouts
  • Fuzzy thinking
  • Irregular periods /anovulatory cycles

Finding a solution that can balance all of your hormones

To correctly diagnose and treat Estrogen dominance you must check the estrogen and progesterone levels and the ratio between them.

That's why when a premenopausal woman suffers from symptoms of hormonal imbalance we always look at the ratio between her estrogen and progesterone.

The best test is the saliva test.  Unfortunately most physicians are not trained in this type of testing or hormone balancing with bioidentical hormones.

To correctly diagnose you must understand how the hormones interact and the physiology of how the hormones are made and how the work.

Adding one or two hormones isn't going to help you feel better. Your hormones and the chemistry affecting them must be balanced.

At Saylor Medical we are trained and specialize in BHRT (Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy).  We use safer Bioidentical Hormone Replacement in your treatment.

Our treatments return you to balance and resolves the root causes of the imbalance.
